It had been a long, hard start to the season for young Jordan Ibe, prior to Jurgen Klopp’s arrival. The youngster had arrived back from his loan spell mid-way through last season to a fan-fare of praise from fans and press alike. He was exciting, tricky, as much like a young John Barnes, as he was a young Raheem Sterling.

Fast forward 8 months and the youngster was confined to the bench, being sent on purely as an outlet as the team struggled to even hold on to draws, nevermind wins away at Stamford Bridge. It was looking very much like the young winger’s progress had badly stalled.

But the arrival of Jurgen Klopp has seen many of the current squad quickly rediscover something approaching their best form, and while Ibe himself hasn’t yet won a place in the first team, he at least has the confidence from the former Dortmund manager that he is capable of more than just running the ball into the corner flag to waste time.

And Ibe himself says that Klopp has started to make the Liverpool players believe again. Where once they would have wilted under the pressure of conceding after three minutes and conceded more, now the players will rally, regroup and believe they can score again.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Ibe said: “It was one of the most important things the new manager has said – we need to be a team who can be 2-0 down and know there is still time for us to get a goal.

“It could be in the last 10 minutes, so it’s just about having a mentality that is like ‘it’s now up to us to go and get two goals…and then a third one’.

“It was great for the team to come back from 1-0 down because it is difficult to do that and beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. It was great.

“There is a lot of learning in training. There are times when we are watching and he is explaining something. We have quite a few meetings where he shows us things on video from previous games. It’s great to learn and I’m enjoying it.

“Everyone’s happy with the win, it was fully deserved. Hopefully we can continue and start picking up more points.”

With many young talents like Ibe at Anfield, Klopp has a lot of rough diamonds to polish but that is exactly how he likes it, if his time at Mainz and Dortmund is anything to go by.

From his own point of view, Ibe believes that things couldn’t be better for him under the new manager and the constant hugs and high-fives from the new man are obviously working wonders for his confidence.

Ibe continued: “With the new manager, everything is fresh. I feel like a new player and it’s for me to keep improving and trying to stand out in training. I feel good – the whole team are feeling great and fresh.

“We’ve won two games now, so it’s still new. We just need to win a few more now and I am sure that mentality and confidence will come where we think, ‘We can go there and beat them.’”
