Young Ibe and Milner should return to the squad for today’s match

The international break will officially be over by the 12:45 kickoff tomorrow, and we can get back into the ‘proper’ football, with the Premier League commencing once again.

Liverpool will head to the Etihad for the final game of the day to take on the current leaders, Manchester City in a game that has had mixed returns for Liverpool since City’s rise to prominence.

The Reds have had success against City at home in recent seasons, most notably during the title run-in 2 years ago, but have struggled away to the Manchester side, drawing 2 and losing 4 in the last six seasons.

In terms of personnel, both sides will have late fitness tests for key players, with fans having to wait with baited breath to find out whether star strikers Daniel Sturridge and Sergio Aguero will be fit to appear for their respective teams.

For Liverpool fans, Sturridge declared himself fit earlier in the week, whilst his manager was more tight-lipped about whether his star man (who has yet to play a game for him) will feature at all today.

Whether or not Aguero plays will not impact City’s potency in front of goal however, despite his importance to the side. But with the likes of Kompany, Nasri and Bony all ruled out, the home side’s squad will have a slightly more depleted look about it.

Meanwhile, the Reds will welcome back Jordan Ibe and James Milner, who both sat out the international break, whilst the game has probably come too soon for the return of captain Jordan Henderson.

With both sides enduring injuries to key players, and potentially welcoming back star strikers, the announcement of the teams will be of great interest today, for what promises to be a very hotly contested match.
