The Italian keeper has been reported to be on the Reds’ radar today

With both Simon Mignolet and Adam Bogdan failing to impress on a consistent basis under Jurgen Klopp, it appears the Reds will be, at the very least, linked with every goalkeeper on the continent over the next month. Or at least until a new goalkeeper is signed.

The news this morning is that Liverpool are now looking at Paris Saint-Germain’s Italian International, Salvatore Sirigu. The 28 year old has been at the Paris club since 2011 and has played over 175 games for the club in that time, winning a handful of goalkeeper of the year awards, several Ligue 1 titles and a number of cups, providing the rock at the back for a succession of managers to build on.

But since the signing of German keeper Kevin Trapp over the summer though, the Italian has found himself pushed out, playing just 3 times since the start of the season and with the European Championship taking place this summer, the 15-times capped keeper may well see a move away from Ligue 1 as his chance of securing a place with first team football.

The keeper was asked on Sunday whether he’d still be at PSG in the summer, to which he replied: “I don’t know – the transfer window is open.

“For the moment, I’m trying to keep myself ready for when I’m called upon like today. Afterwards we’ll see what will be the best for me, for the club and for everyone.”

At just 28 Sirigu would still have at least 5-6 years left at the top level, and the experience he would bring to the Reds at the back would be invaluable. Quite whether the club would see paying such a large fee for a veteran keeper (reportedly around £10+ million) remains to be seen though.
