Now that there’s just over a week of the 2016 January transfer window left, we’re likely to start seeing a few more expensive panic buys as clubs look to strengthen for the final few months of the 2015-16 season.

Fortunately for Liverpool, there appears to be only a couple of areas that the club are looking to add to before the window closes, and there are two names that keep cropping up, meaning that it’s unlikely we’ll be blowing a fortune on a player out of the blue.

Firstly, the biggest news of the window for the Reds so far is the news that we’d made a bid for Alex Teixiera. That was, apparently, subsequently rejected but reports last night were that the club had returned with an increased bid. News from the Sunday Mirror is that Shakhtar Donetsk are refusing to budge from their valuation but Liverpool are hopeful of pushing through a deal.

The player himself too is seemingly keen, and it would seem he’s spent the best part of the last 24 hours liking pictures and posts from official LFC accounts on various social media. It’s all no doubt just a clever attempt at PR from his agent looking to push a deal through.

Elsewhere and the Reds are still being linked with a number of keepers, despite Simon Mignolet signing a new long-term contract. The name Marc-Andre ter Stegen has once again cropped up, after reports that Barcelona have valued the player at around £20 million and the player himself is seemingly keen to move on in January in order to ensure he travels to Euro 2016 with his country.

Fans have hoped that Klopp’s presence at Anfield would be a major pull for the Germany international, and the fact that all of the Premier League’s – and many of Europe’s – top clubs already have top-class keepers, would leave the way clear for the Reds. Quite whether FSG would be prepared to sanction such a huge fee for a new keeper in January remains to be seen though.

Perhaps a more likely, if not more welcome, option would be Leicester City’s number 1, Kasper Schmeichel. The former Manchester City star has taken a while to rise back up to the Premier League, after having initially impressed early in his career at the club.

And although he’s primarily spent most of his career plying his trade in the Championship, he has shown during the last two seasons in the Premier League that he has the talent and experience to excel at the top level and has been instrumental in Leicester City’s title push during the current season.

Bitter rivals Manchester United are also reportedly looking at Schmeichel, as it seems likely that David De Gea is not longed for Old Trafford, so the Reds would certainly have their work cut out if they make a move for the Denmark international.

Whether any of these signings come off, it’s likely to be a fairly busy final week of the transfer window but it would at least seem that the club will still be active right up to deadline day.
