It certainly has been a long time in coming, particularly after those impressive wins over Man City, Chelsea and Southampton all seemed like such a long time ago, but James Milner has said that he’d told captain Jordan Henderson that a big win was on it’s way.

The Reds demolished a terrible Aston Villa side on Sunday, racking up the team’s biggest win of the season in the process, and handing Villa the club’s biggest home defeat in the Premier League era.

Villa were already being talked about as favourites for relegation, and the team’s heavy defeat has only further confirmed those fears. But for Liverpool, it was the culmination of months of hard work under Klopp, and can hopefully be the beginning of a successful few months to end the season on a high.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, Milner said: “I had a convo with Hendo the other day and said I think we’re due a game like this where things go in. I don’t think we started particularly well, but we found ourselves in front.

“We’ve played a lot better at times and not had the rewards we’ve deserved. It was pleasing, we had a lot of chances that hadn’t been going in for us, but did go in.

“Hopefully that can kick-start this final period of the season with some important games coming up, get the boys some confidence in front of goal and hopefully a lot more chances will go in.”

The return of the likes of Philippe Coutinho and Daniel Sturridge (along with Divock Origi in the second half), saw Liverpool take the game to Villa with gusto from the first whistle, going in at half-time 2-nil ahead.

The second half saw a further 4 goals, with 6 separate players getting on the score-sheet and turning the team’s Premier League goal-difference around in the process.

Milner continued: “It looks a lot better when you look at the league table and see that.

“It’s important and hopefully we can build on the confidence from the chances we’ve created and taken.

“We have been creating chances, but not putting them in the back of the net. If we can keep getting goals from everywhere, contributing and taking a bit of pressure off the front boys then that’ll help as well.”
