Player ratings: Leicester 2-0 LIVERPOOL

|
The Liverpool keeper excelled in the penalty shootout

Mignolet had to make some great saves but was powerless for either of Leicester’s goals

GK/Defence

Simon Mignolet – You have to feel for Mignolet last night. He made a few good saves and looked confident but had all his work undone by some predictably comical defending and a worldie by Vardy. Rating – 6

Nathaniel Clyne – For about the tenth time this season, Clyne was the best of Liverpool’s back line simply by being solid. He did little wrong defensively but contributed little going forward. Rating – 6

Dejan Lovren – Whether it was that he’d only recently returned and was facing his second game in four days or that Vardy simply made him nervous, Lovren was back to his worst. Nervy, indecisive and slow. Not what we’ve come to expect from Lovren in recent monthsRating – 4.5

Mamadou Sakho – But while Lovren may have the excuse of only recently returning, Sakho continued to resemble a clown in Liverpool’s defence. The Frenchman can no longer live on his reputation as, quite simply, he was laughably poor last night. Weak in the build up to Vardy’s first and a mess for his second. That’s not to lay all of the blame on Sakho, but he’s simply shown nothing to warrant the praise he so often receives and he – once again – failed to nail down even the basics last night. Rating – 4

Alberto Moreno – So often, Moreno escapes great criticism purely by offering an attacking outlet. He again offered that last night but his delivery was shockingly bad. Constantly hitting the first man, he seriously needs improvement in that regard. Drew a smart save from Schmeichel but little else. Rating – 5
