The former Liverpool defender has responded to Pardew’s bitterness

Considering his side are currently battling to stay in the Premier League, you’d think Alan Pardew would have more important matters to attend to than carrying on his whinging about the penalty Christian Benteke was awarded in Liverpool’s win a few weeks ago.

Pardew decided to show his class by taking a dig at Jamie Carragher in his pre-match notes ahead of Palace’s game against Leicester today (which, by the way, they comfortably lost!) for the former Liverpool defenders defence of Benteke following the game on Sky Sports.

But Carragher decided to respond, by pointing out that, although Pardew mentions the ‘soft penalty’ his own side were awarded against Reading in their next game, he doesn’t seem to bemoan getting it too much:

It shouldn’t really come as too much of a surprise to hear Pardew still moaning about the penalty (although not the fact his side lost to ten men after leading them), considering the position his side are currently in.

After all, if Palace do go down, it gives him something to point to to show how it wasn’t actually his fault. Remember how Neil Warnock blamed Rafa Benitez’s decision to play a weakened side, after his Sheffield United side went down many years ago.

For now, have another look at Benteke’s winning penalty from that game:
