After storming into and early lead and looking good for the three points after barely half an hour at Southampton yesterday, Liverpool somehow conspired to drop all three points in the final 25 minutes, in a shockingly bad collapse.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp was visibly disgusted by his players at the final whistle but saved much of his ire for Christian Benteke at the final whistle, after the Belgian had squandered a chance with barely 16 minutes to go to put the away side 3-1 ahead.

While most Liverpool fans no doubt may have given Benteke a mouthful themselves, Klopp came in for a lot of criticism from Match of the Day pundits last night for his public display of anger toward Benteke.

Speaking on Match of the Day 2 last night, guests Alan Shearer and Murphy had this to say (Shearer): “I understand all of that (Klopp didn’t sign him) but I wouldn’t take too kindly If I was a player and he came on to the pitch in front of 32,000 and let his feelings be known.

“No problem if he wants to give him a telling off, or whatever it is, but do it in the dressing room, in the four walls in front of the rest of the players, not in front of all the fans.”

Murphy then added: “I couldn’t agree more, If you’re going to give someone a telling off then do it inside.

“Sometimes he’s great Jurgen Klopp, he’s been a breath of fresh air but sometimes he’s overly animated on the touchline and it doesn’t always go down well with everyone.”
