Player ratings: LIVERPOOL 2-0 Manchester United

|
Lovren returned to the team and was excellent, whilst Mignolet had little to do

Lovren and Mignolet were both comfortable at the back

GK/Defence

Simon Mignolet – Had little to do, what with Van Gaal opting to demand his team do nothing but knock the ball long to Fellaini. Looked comfortable but owes most of that to the men in front of him tonight. Rating – 6

Nathaniel Clyne – Won the penalty that opened the scoring, kept a succession of opponents quiet down the right and seemed to have the run of the right hand side all night long. Really gave the team an extra attacking dimension and United didn’t seem to know how to cope with him. Rating – 8 Man of the Match

Mamadou SakhoHad a few shaky moments early on but grew in composure. By the end he looked more than comfortable. Rating 7

Dejan Lovren – In Martin Skrtel’s absence, Dejan Lovren is starting to look like Klopp’s main man at the back. Calm, comfortable and confident; the defender dealt Fellaini easily and pretty much everything else the away side threw his way. Rating – 7.5

Alberto Moreno – Wasn’t quite the outlet he’s been since Klopp took over but that appeared to help his defensive game. Did little wrong at the back but needs to find a happy balance between both parts of his game. Rating – 6.5
