Attack

Philippe Coutinho – It was a bizarre night for Coutinho on the whole; he looked awful in the first half and was probably the worst player on the pitch. But when the opportunity presented itself, and it was entirely all his own work that it did, he didn’t shy away. A wonderful finish that he could have added to several times in the second half. Rating – 7

Roberto Firmino – The other star Brazilian at Anfield these days wasn’t quite the attacking force we’ve come to expect, primarily because he was playing second-fiddle to first Sturridge, then Origi and Benteke. But his work rate on, and off, the ball was astonishing. He gave a free-kick away late in the second half that was frustrating to see but saw him sprint back to try and win the ball back. Seems to be really loving playing in the current setup. Rating – 7.5

Adam Lallana – With Liverpool looking to play a more conservative counter-attacking game for much of the second leg, Lallana was expected to do more at his own end, than the opposition end of the field. But like Firmino and Milner, he worked like a dog but was always available to support any burgeoning attacks. Rating – 7
