The Spanish manager will return to Anfield tomorrow to a very warm welcome

The visit of Rafa Benitez’s new side, Newcastle United, to Anfield tomorrow will see the two of the most successful managers in Europe, and the two most popular men to manager the club in the past 25 years, go head-to-head for the first time.

Benitez oversaw perhaps the most exciting and successful stage in the club’s history since Liverpool last won the First Division title, and is still much-loved by Reds the world over for that Champion League win in 2005. Not to mention building probably the best Liverpool team in 30 years.

And new manager Jurgen Klopp is not only more than happy for fans to show Rafa their love and appreciation, but feels they should, to show an ‘old friend’ a very warm welcome.

Speaking prior to the match (via Liverpoolfc.com), Klopp said: “I know him, I like Rafa. We met each other a few times at UEFA meetings, he is a very successful manager, nice person, and I really like him.

“From my point of view, if somebody wants to celebrate Rafa Benitez and memories of the Istanbul game or whatever – [he’s] one of the most successful managers at Liverpool – they’re very welcome.

“If they want [to], do it. Be louder than you have ever been, that’s absolutely okay. That’s how I would say hello to a good old friend, so if you want to do this nobody has to ignore this wonderful moment only because I’m here now.

“Everything is okay from my side so do how you feel, and if it’s very good, show it.”

Having guided the Reds to two Champions League finals against AC Milan within the space of three years, as well as winning an FA Cup, Uefa Super Cup and Community Shield, whilst running as close as a few points away from winning the Premier League.

But whilst the Spanish manager is certain to get a warm welcome, that will be as far as it goes, with the home fans and team feeling galvanised by Klopp’s arrival and whatever team the 48 year old sends out will be looking to take the points, particularly with a place in the Europa League semi final team up for grabs.
