Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen will be staying at the Catalan club, according to Spanish newspaper Sport. The 24 year old had been linked heavily with a move to Liverpool in recent weeks but the news may come as a blow to Jurgen Klopp’s transfer plans as he looks to buy a replacement for Simon Mignolet

Ter Stegen had let it be known to Barca officials that he wanted to leave the club in the summer after failing to depose Claudio Bravo from the number one spot. The German keeper was being picked for Spanish cup and in Champions League but Bravo was consistently manager Luis Enrique’s first choice for league matches, something ter Stegen did not accept.

According to Sport, a bid of €20million from an unnamed English club was made for the German but Barca representatives have now persuaded ter Stegen that if he does stay, he will be given the opportunity by Enrique to become number one in the league as well.
