Cologne chief executive Jorg Schmadtke has dismissed any suggestions that left back Jonas Hector is on the verge of moving to Liverpool. Reports emerged last week that the Reds had agreed a fee of around £12million for the German international.

Schmadtke said these reports were not accurate and that the 26 year old will be staying in the Bundesliga next season, telling Express.de that he would demand at least double the amount suggested to let the player leave :

“There’s nothing in it. There is no question of an offer from Liverpool. If someone comes up with double [the number in question], then I might answer the phone. But I believe that Jonas plays in the new season with us.”

Although scouted by Liverpool, the German is not currently a target with Leicester’s Ben Chilwell the only left back on Jurgen Klopp’s wishlist this summer, according to the Liverpool Echo. With fans clambering for a replacement for the inconsistent Alberto Moreno, many are holding out hope that the link to Hector is genuine but it looks certain the only full back currently the focus of a bid from the Reds is Chilwell. Due to his inexperience, he will be most likely be Moreno’s understudy although if he develops quickly, he could rival the Spaniard for a starting place sooner rather than later.
