Liverpool have targeted Porto’s young holding midfielder Reuben Neves, according to the Record newspaper in Portugal. Likened in style to Portuguese star Joao Moutinho, the 19 year old is assured on the ball and has a good passing range, excellent vision and is able to press the ball.

His qualities have attracted the interest of Jurgen Klopp, the Portuguese paper reports, but a major stumbling block will be Neves’s asking price. Although Porto do need to sell players after failing to reach the Champions League, finishing third in the Primeira Liga behind Benfica and Sporting Lisbon, they won’t allow the player to leave below the player’s release clause of €40million, about £31.5million.

Neves has been a first team player for Porto for the past two seasons, making 35 appearances, scoring 2 goals and providing 1 assist in all competitions last campaign. He also already has 2 caps for Portugal but didn’t make the squad for the European Championships.
