Liverpool set for transfer blow

Liverpool face an uphill battle in their pursuit of Barcelona defender Marc Bartra, according to local newspaper Mundo Deportivo, as the 25 year old prefers a move to Valencia.

The Catalan daily say that although Tottenham, Manchester United and the Reds are interested in the player, the centre back would like to stay in Spain. It seems however, that the Barca defender won’t rule out a move elsewhere as it very much depends on who is willing to meet the Catalan club’s asking price for the player.

Bartra is hoping for a good European Championships with Spain in order to increase his options as he’s been named in the final 23 man squad for the tournament in France. He has a buyout clause of €40million but with his contract expiring next summer, it is likely that Barcelona will allow the player to leave instead of losing him for nothing on a free transfer. The centre back made just 4 league starts under Luis manager Enrique last season.
