Liverpool are interested in signing Marek Hamsik from Napoli, according to Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli. Writing for Tribal Football, Giulianelli believes that the Reds are tempted by the attacking midfielder.
The 28 year old impressed in Slovakia’s 2-1 win over Russia but was almost anonymous as his side went for a 0-0 draw against England last night. The playmaker could be available for approximately €45million or £35million with a €6million a year salary mooted.
Hamsik has increased speculation about his future after coming out and stating that the possibility of staying at Napoli is only “50/50”. Whether Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group would shell out the type of money required to seal a move for a 28 year old is open for debate. Although in the prime of his career, there is no resale value, and the fact that the Reds have a number of attacking midfielders already may make the move unlikely. In any case with Slovakia likely to qualify as one of the third place teams for the last 16 of the Euros, it will be a while before Hamsik’s future is resolved.
