If Carlsberg did substitutions

With the domestic season nearly over – Euro 2016 is just around the corner.

Indeed, the tournament in France kicks off on June 10th and has all the makings of a classic European Championship, not least because its new format includes 24 teams (as oppose to 16) and reserves a spot in the Round of 16 for four teams who finish third in the group stages.

But as per usual, the England national team finds itself surrounded by typical English cynicism.

Critics are questioning whether captain and all-time leading goalscorer Wayne Rooney should be in the squad – let alone the starting Xi – whether Roy Hodgson’s tactics suit his youthful side and whether the Young Lions breaking through will inevitably suffer the same shortcomings as their many failed predecessors.

Perhaps that’s understandable. After all, England haven’t won a major tournament since the World Cup in 1966 and are ever-cursed by their profligacy in penalty shootouts.

But negative thinking certainly won’t help England’s cause and Carlsberg are determined to substitute English football’s traditional pessimism for a much needed injection of optimism, as Rooney, Dele Alli, Jamie Vardy and company prepare for Euro 2016.

So if you’re in need of some inspiration or a reason to get behind England’s bid for the European Championship title, check out the rousing speech in the video from Carlsberg below. It’ll leave you screaming ENGLAND from the top of your lungs – and thirsty for a good pint!
