Roma have joined Napoli and Liverpool in registering their interest in Porto midfielder Hector Herrera, according to Abola. The Portuguese newspaper and a number of other publications in Portugal have linked the Mexican international with the Reds in recent weeks but it now looks like they will face competition from a second Italian club.

Napoli were believed to be close to a deal for the 26 year old but they couldn’t match Porto’s €25million asking price and the transfer stalled. Liverpool were said to be looking at Herrera as an alternative to Udinese’s Piotr Zielinski but it now looks likely that the Reds will bid for Newcastle Georginio Wijnaldum instead , although it must be said the Dutch international is not a similar type of player to Zielinski or Herrera.

Roma meanwhile want to strengthen their midfielder but as they are having to qualify for the Champions League via the playoff round this season, Abola believes the Serie A side will hold off on any bid for Herrera until they are safely through to the group stages of the European competition to finance the move.
