Wigan Athletic are closing in on signing Liverpool keeper Adam Bogdan, according to ESPN FC. The Hungarian has had a difficult time since joining on a free transfer from Bolton Wanderers last summer and it is now expected that he will join the Championship outfit after just one year at Anfield.

Bogdan was given a chance in the first team against Watford in the league and Exeter in the FA Cup but on both occasions he made high profile errors leading manager Jurgen Klopp to promote Danny Ward as understudy to Simon Mignolet.

Although Ward has subsequently departed on a season long loan to Huddersfield Town, the arrival of Loris Karius from Mainz to compete with Mignolet for the number one jersey means that Bogdan’s services are not required.

The Reds have been linked with Lazio’s Federico Marchetti in the Italian press but the more likely option as third choice goalkeeper may well be 39 year old Alex Manninger who is currently training with the club in preseason.
