Porto midfielder Hector Herrera has returned to preseason training after his exploits at the Copa America with his future still unresolved. The Mexican international has been subject to a bid from Napoli but the two sides have failed to find a compromise regarding the transfer fee.

The Portuguese club are believed to want 25million for the 26 year old but Napoli have so far refused to meet their demands. According to the Portuguese newspaper Record, this could provide an opportunity to Liverpool who still “remain attentive” to Herrera’s situation.

Porto would not be against the Mexican staying at the club, the paper reports, as he would provide much needed balance to a team in transition after finishing third behind Lisbon rivals Benfica and Sporting last season. Record think that transfer activity may hot up at the end of the transfer window in August but it looks for now that Herrera will be staying at the Estadio do Dragao unless Liverpool change priorities on their central midfield targets.
