Liverpool have been grouped with Porto, Wolfsburg and Leicester City for the Premier League International Cup competition. This year it will be an Under 23 tournament, in a similar vein to the new Premier League 2 league which English Under 23 teams will take part in this campaign.

Last season the Reds participated in the first International Cup but could only manage one win against Celtic, losing their other two games against Benfica (2-0) and Chelsea (4-2). They finished third in their group and did not qualify for the knockout rounds as Villarreal went on to win the tournament against Dutch club PSV Eindhoven in the final.

The Reds will have Harry Wilson in the squad for the tournament after the left winger signed a new deal to stay at Anfield yesterday. The 19 year old spent the first half of last season on loan at League One side Crewe Alexandra, making seven appearances for the Railwaymen.
