After Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain’s agent said his client won’t sign a new contract to stay at the San Paolo, the Italian club are now eyeing up replacements for the Argentine, according to La Republica (via Football-Italia.net).

The Italian newspaper believe that Napoli have set their sights on 3 possible replacements in Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi, Everton’s Romelu Lukaku and Liverpool’s Christian Benteke.

Higuain has a €94million buyout clause and with the 28 year old having 2 years left on his contract at the Italian club, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis may look to cash in on the player who scored 36 goals in Serie A last season.

The sale will free up funds to sign another striker with Belgian striker Benteke one of the likely targets. The 25 year old is expected to leave Anfield this summer as he isn’t expected to be part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans for the new season. The Reds will demand £30million for the player as they look to recoup most of what they paid Aston Villa just a year ago.
