Wolfsburg have joined Fenerbahce and Sporting Lisbon in the race to sign Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic on loan, according to Portuguese newspaper Record. The Serbian has taken part in Liverpool’s preseason matches against Tranmere Rovers and Fleetwood Town but his future at Anfield is far from certain.
Brendan Rodgers sent the 22 year old out on loan to Fenerbahce last season but he will be hoping to impress new manager Jurgen Klopp enough to show that he deserves a chance in the first team with the Reds.
If he doesn’t impress however, Turkish side Fenerbahce are prepared to take the winger for a second spell despite his first year being hampered by a hamstring injury limiting him to just 21 first team appearances.
The news that German club Wolfsburg have entered the race may perturb Fenerbahce and Sporting though as the Bundesliga side would be in a much better position to pay the Serbian’s wages than their two rivals.
