FC Cologne left back Jonas Hector looks set to sign a new contract, on a increased salary, to stay at the Bundesliga club seemingly dealing a blow to Liverpool’s transfer plans.

German newspaper Bild is reporting that talks took place over the weekend regarding the new deal. The same publication has linked Hector with a move to Anfield over the past few months but it now looks likely that the Reds will have to look elsewhere if they want to provide competition at left back for Alberto Moreno.

Barcelona, Tottenham and Wolfsburg have also shown interest in the German international but Barca opted to sign Lucas Digne from PSG rather than go for Hector. The Reds meanwhile have been in negotiations with Leicester City all summer about purchasing Ben Chilwell. The Merseyside club are believed to have offered £7million for the 19 year old but the Premier League champions are said to be holding out for £10million.
