Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has vowed that he won’t allow the transfer fee to affect his game when he puts on the Red shirt next season.

The Senegal international was purchased from Southampton for approximately £30million, the third highest fee in Liverpool’s history, just behind Andy Carroll (£35m) and Christian Benteke (£32.5m). The 24 year old will want to make a better impression than those two strikers after being purchased for such large sums. When asked about the pressure of the transfer fee by the Liverpool Echo, Mane responded:

“It’s football isn’t it? That’s the game these days. The thing for me is not to focus on the fee. I just have to focus on what I can do in the games and in training. I want to take the club as far as I can.”

Mane also revealed in the interview that Manchester United and a number of other clubs were interested in signing him but he wanted to make the move to Merseyside to benefit his career. He talked about a phone conversation with Jurgen Klopp he had before signing where the German manager talked about the expectations he had if he moved to the Reds:

“It was a telephone conversation where we discussed different things. He realised I was a young player keen to work hard and progress. I said that was me. I told him I was straightforward and that I want to work hard.”
