Despite consistently stating over the past few weeks that he would be interested in bringing Mario Balotelli back to Italy, Crotone president Raffaele Vrenna has now given up his pursuit of the Italian striker.

Vrenna told the Corriere Dello Sport that newly promoted Serie A side Crotone won’t be signing the 25 year old but he has suggested that the Italian international’s most likely next destination is probably China:

“Mario Balotelli will not be coming to us, probably will play in China.”

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp told reporters yesterday that although Balotelli has world class talent, he could not guarantee the striker first team opportunities. He said he told Balotelli that he thought it wasn’t fair for him to be competing for 4 or 5 other players for one place and that he should look elsewhere so he can recapture his best form.

China was always the most likely destination due to the Italian’s high wages. No Serie A club could match the salary he is on at Anfield and the Chinese Super League looks like the only real prospect of the player departing permanently.
