Benfica are interested in signing Liverpool midfielder Luis Alberto, according to Spanish radio station Cadena Ser (via the Record newspaper).

Alberto has been looking for a new club since returning from a season long loan at Deportivo La Coruna. He was part of Jurgen Klopp’s pre-season training plans but failed to impress the Reds boss enough to be given first team action.

Alberto’s old club Sevilla were said to be interested in the Spaniard earlier in the summer but were put off by Liverpool’s £7million despite it being close to the £6.8m that the Reds paid the Spanish club back in 2013.

Cadena Ser are reporting that Valencia are also looking at the 23 year old and that the Reds have dropped their asking price to €6m or £5.2m with the midfielder’s contract expiring next summer. Either club may wait until January when he will be able to discuss a free transfer.
