Despite the Liverpool Echo stating that he is not a target of Liverpool, the Spanish press are continuing to report that the Reds are interested in Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi.

Edlesmarque say Liverpool areĀ in “full negotiations” with Valencia about signing the centre back, who is also believed to be the subject of a bid from Arsenal. Negotiations are believed to have started when Valencia enquired about the possibility of signing Luis Alberto.

The Spanish publication however says the negotiations for Alberto are completely separate to those regarding Mustafi but they say that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is keen on shoring up his defence after conceding three goals against Arsenal last weekend. Eldesmarque are reporting that the Reds boss is a keen admirer of Mustafi and believes he would fit the style of play at Anfield.

Usually when the Echo say there is no interest, that is indeed the case so I would take this report with a pinch of salt, but it is not certain how close Eldesmarque sources are to Valencia to decide on their reports accuracy. In addition, Mustafi’s father has told goal.com that “two or more clubs” are interested in his son.
