Roma have rejected an €18m(£15.5m) bid from Liverpool for their midfielder for Leandro Paredes, according to Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli.

Writing in his column for Tribal Football, he reports that although the offer was turned down by the Italian club, they will accept a bid of between €20million and €22million for the Argentinian.

Paredes could be seen as a replacement for Lucas Leiva who is set to leave the Reds this summer. He spent last season out on loan at Empoli and made 33 appearances in the league, scoring two goals and providing one assist. He is a holding midfielder and likes a tackle, demonstrated by the 11 yellow cards he picked up in Serie A last season.

Now back at Roma he was keen to impress manager Luciano Spalletti in preseason but it looks as though the Italian is prepared to allow the 22 year old to leave in order to finance a move for Fiorentina midfielder Borja Valero.
