The Mirror are reporting that Chelsea are interested in signing FC Cologne left back Jonas Hector for £20million. In what seems an unlikely development, the tabloid believes that despite the German international only recently signing a new contract to stay at his club, Blues manager Antonio Conte is keen on making a move for the 26 year old to strengthen his full back options.

Left back Baba Rahman left for Schalke on a season long loan leaving Cesar Azpilicueta as the club’s only senior left back. The Spaniard is also able to play right back and with Conte keen to play his favoured 3-5-2 formation, he could make a move for the German.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with Hector all summer as a replacement for Alberto Moreno but Jurgen Klopp baulked at the player’s price tag. With the player now signed up to a new deal to stay in Cologne, it would be very surprising to say the least if Hector moves this summer.
