Liverpool midfielder Emre Can has revealed that no contract talks have taken place with the Reds in regards to extending his stay at Anfield. When signing in 2014 from Bayer Leverkusen, the German international agreed a four year contract with the Premier League side.

With two years left on his current deal at the Merseyside club, Liverpool would usually start discussions about a renewal but the 22 year old told the Liverpool Echo that talks have not started yet:

“I still have two years left. There have been no discussions yet. I am enjoying my time here. It’s a great club, like a family, I’m very happy to be here and still have two years left.”

After figuring prominently under Jurgen Klopp since the German’s arrival as manager back in October, it is expected that the Reds will begin discussions over a new deal in the next few months. Clubs rarely allow players to go into the last year of their contract with the fear that they could lose the player on Bosman transfer the following summer. With Can a regular starter under Klopp, we should see movement on the contract front in the not too distant future.
