Chievo president Luca Campedelli has confirmed that his club have discussed the possibility of signing Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli on loan.

He is quoted as saying (translation by the Mirror) that the Serie A side would love to sign the Italian but the 25 year old’s wages would prove a very difficult obstacle to overcome.

“Dreaming doesn’t cost anything. At the moment, it does remain a dream because we know that it would be very difficult to pull off such a move. We must take into account the obvious difficulties in economic terms, but it is something we are looking at. However, when you are coming up against the big clubs, then Chievo certainly can’t compete at that level.”

Balotelli is currently on £80,000 a week and Liverpool are only willing to allow the player to leave if his salary is covered. Unfortunately the clubs that have expressed an interest so far such as Chievo and Crotone don’t have the wage structures in place to make any deal viable. It is believed the striker rejected a move to Besiktas as he wanted to stay in one of Europe’s biggest leagues, and although Chievo would fit the bill after finishing 9th in Serie A last season, any possibility of the Reds striker leaving for Verona look slim at the moment.
