Roma manager Luciano Spalletti has increased speculation over midfielder Leandro Paredes’s future at the Italian club after telling the Corriere Dello Sport that the Argentine could be sold this summer.

Liverpool have been heavily linked with the 22 year old over the past few weeks with reports even suggesting that the Reds had an €18million bid rejected for the holding midfielder and Spalletti said that although he would like to keep the player, Gonzalo Higuain’s sale to Juventus demonstrated that good players can be sold:

“Paredes is a strong player in our opinion and we want to use him this season. But often strong players need to be sold. It even happened with [Gonzalo] Higuain. For me Paredes is a good player and I hope he remains in Rome.”

Leicester City are also believed to be interested in the former Argentina U17 international, who spent last season out loan at fellow Serie A side Empoli. Jurgen Klopp could be looking for another holding midfield player after it was reported that he refused to allow Lucas Leiva to leave for Galatasaray because of a lack of cover in his position. James Milner is expected to be sidelined through injury for the Reds opening league match of the season against Arsenal, leaving Emre Can, Jordan Henderson, Marko Grujic and Georginio Wijnaldum in contention for the central midfield roles on Sunday.
