Belgian midfielder Samuel Bastien has admitted that he was in contact with Liverpool over a move to Anfield during the summer, but interest from the Reds was not “concrete”.

Bastien eventually moved to Italian Serie A side Chievo Verona before the end of the transfer window in August for €2.5m but the 19 year old had been heavily linked with a move to Jurgen Klopp’s side over the past six months. He told the Belgian daily newspaper La Capitale (quotes in full via Votebalnieuws) that he was delighted about his move to Italy:

“I am very satisfied. I also had contacts with Liverpool, but that was never concrete. At Chievo, it is the best moment of my career.”

Bastien was on loan at Serie B side Avellino last season from Belgian club Anderlecht. During his spell at the Italian club, he made 31 league appearances, scoring two goals and providing one assist.

He was said to be also interesting Portuguese side Benfica before Chievo agreed a deal. He hasn’t yet made his debut for the Italian side.
