Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore says that Jordan Henderson will only begin to convince him once he starts converting chances into goals for the Reds on a consistent basis.

The ex Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest player admitted he was wrong to say that the Liverpool captain would be dominated by N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic when they played Chelsea last Friday but he wants the 26 year old to be scoring more goals, despite his wonder strike against the Blues. He wrote in his column for the Mirror:

“Henderson responded with the goal which settled matters ā€” an absolute cracker , too ā€” but Iā€™m still reserving judgement until he has scored six or seven this season, including a couple of tap-ins.”

“To be a central midfielder for Liverpool , you have to be multi-faceted. You have to provide the assists, the long-range passes, short-range passes and goals.”

Considering Henderson is playing in the sole holding midfield role under Jurgen Klopp this season, opportunities to get forward like he did in his previous midfield role where he made late runs from midfield, will be much rarer. Expecting the Reds captain to score when playing in a more withdrawn position is not something we should expect from him this campaign.
