Livérpool manager Jurgen Klopp is excited about the prospect of repeating last year’s experience in the League Cup and reach the final once again.

The Reds lost to Manchester City on penalties in the final last season and with the club involved in fewer games this campaign with no distraction of European football, Klopp is quoted by the Liverpool Echo as saying he is keen to go one better this year and win the trophy for the first time since 2012:

“We are in this cup competition to win it. It’s not that every day we all say: ‘we want to win the League Cup’ but it’s a very important tournament. We had some great games in it last season and it was exciting to be a part of. We want to do that again.”

“The final was a great experience. But it’s not about talking, it’s about showing that on the pitch and doing everything to make sure you come as close as possible to getting there.”

The Reds will face Derby County in the third round of the EFL Cup at the iPro stadium tonight and Jurgen Klopp is expected to name a strong line up. Goalkeeper Loris Karius is expected to start in goal for the tie in place of Simon Mignolet. It will be the German’s first competitive start for the Reds, and with Klopp stating that the club has no number one keeper, he will be keen to make an impression and stake his claim to start ahead of Mignolet in the league.
