Liverpool centre back Ragnar Klavan has said there are certain aspects of playing football in England that have taken him time to get used to.

The 30 year old has played in Estonia, Norway, The Netherlands and Germany during his long playing career but he told Liverpoolfc.com that the aggressive nature of the Premier League has meant he has taken time to adapt:

“It’s kind of more aggressive, a little bit more is allowed by the referees. It’s a little bit different from the Bundesliga. Those are just parts where you need to get used to it a little bit, so it took me some time and also in training, but slowly I am getting there.”

“With every league, there is something special about that league. England is, in my opinion, one of the best – maybe the best – leagues in the world.”

Klavan is third choice centre half ahead of Mamadou Sakho and Lucas Leiva in the pecking order under Jurgen Klopp and he may have expected to start his first North-West derby against Manchester United on Monday week but the Liverpool Echo have reported that Dejan Lovren is winning his battle to be fit for the match, alongside right back Nathaniel Clyne. Both Clyne and Lovren have had to withdraw from international duty in order to work on regaining fitness. The Reds will head into the game at Anfield three points ahead of their rivals.
