Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp believes defensive midfielder Kevin Stewart is the best tackler in the Liverpool squad and is a player no opponent relishes coming up against.

The 23 year old has reportedly signed a new contract to stay at the Reds and he put in another assured performance, making tackles and interceptions to help Liverpool to a 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur in the EFL Cup fourth round tie last night.

He broke up play and started the counter attack that led to Daniel Sturridge’s opener and Klopp was full of praise for the former Spurs youth player’s performance. He was quoted by the Liverpool Echo as saying:

“I have said a few times, he’s the best challenger in the squad. One-on-one he is really ugly to play against. He’s a good footballer, good player and he had a good game. Very good.”

With Lucas Leiva moving into a centre back role later in his career, Stewart could become an increasing important squad player for Liverpool, and will no doubt play a prominent role in Liverpool’s next tie in the quarter final of the EFL Cup.
