Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius believes the Reds are more than a match for both Manchester clubs, even though both City and United have spent much more in the transfer market.

In a wide ranging interview with German magazine Sportbild, the newly appointed number one goalkeeper said he feels that the strength of the Liverpool team has been shown in the opening nine matches of the Premier League season:

“Just because they have invested more money, that does not not mean that they are better than us. We are already really good and broad base. The level of expenditure does not always say something about the real strength.”

Karius is once again expected to start in goal against Crystal palace at the weekend. In what should prove to be the German keeper’s first real test in a Liverpool shirt, he will come against wingers in Andros Townsend and Wilfried Zaha who will deliver dangerous crosses for former Red Christian Benteke . We may perhaps begin to see if the 23 year old has what it takes to deal with difficult balls into the box.

In another interview number two Simon Mignolet has declared he will fight for his place in the side which should keep Karius on his toes.
