Liverpool have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams. The Reds have been linked to the Spanish international in the Spanish media in recent weeks but the 22 year old has declared that he wants to remain at his current club for “many years.”

Williams is eligible to play for Bilbao, despite his father being from Ghana and his mother form Liberia, because he was born in the Basque region, and has made a big impact since his debut in 2014. His pace and work rate were said to be interesting Reds manager Jurgen Klopp but he told Spanish newspaper AS (translation by the Daily Star) that he would not be leaving the San Mames any time soon:

“I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’m where i want to be. I’m very happy where I am and I am very grateful to Athletic, to the fans, the club and my team-mates for their support. The truth is I’m very happy here and I want to stay here for many years. I want to be the one who makes the crowd at the San Mames go wild by scoring loads of goals.”

Williams started last night’s match against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu and missed two gilt edged opportunities to get Bilbao back into the match. The Basque side lost narrowly 2-1 after a late Alvaro Morata winner for the home side.
