Liverpool striker Divock Origi says he is finding it frustrating being on the substitute bench this season. The Belgian international has made only two starts in the League Cup so far this campaign.

At the end of last campaign, the 21 year old had edged ahead of Daniel Sturridge to be the Reds’ first choice striker, but has slipped behind both Sturridge and Roberto Firmino in the pecking order for the centre forward role. Speaking to HLN (translated by Liverpoolfc.com) says he understands that he needs to be patient to get his chance:

“I’ve started both matches of the League Cup, and I scored in both games, Liverpool have won almost every game. A manager never changes his winning team. It does not matter to me. Klopp believes in me and says I have to be patient. He asked me to stay calm, which is not easy for a footballer. I want to play and be the decisive player that I was last season. I scored 10 goals in no time [so] everything can turn quickly in football.”

Returning to preseason after the European Championships, Jurgen Klopp describes the Belgian international as lacking “rhythm,” but the problem for Origi is that he will need a run in the first team in order to regain it. With the Reds winning matches with Firmino up front however, chances will be few and far between. During a long season though, he should get his chance to shine again.
