Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has tipped friend and former team mate Steven Gerrard to make the switch to management very soon. The Reds icon was said to have been lined up for the vacant managerial role at the MK Dons but Carra told the Monday Night Football (quotes via the Liverpool Echo) that the timing wasn’t right.

Gerrard could still play on as a player before turning his hand to management, and he may even take up a coaching role to gain further experience. Carra did say however that the MK Dons position could have been the right role for Gerrard:

“If he’d have taken the job it would have been a good decision in terms of the club. Alex Ferguson always used to say: ‘don’t pick your club, pick your chairman'”

“That chairman (Winkleman) gave Karl Robinson plenty of time, gave Roberto Di Matteo and Paul Ince a chance. The chairman more than the club probably would have enticed him. He’s turned it down now but the fact he spoke to a club shows it will only be a matter of time.”

Gerrard’s contract with LA Galaxy expires next month, and he is expected to return to the UK with his family. Playing roles at Celtic, Newcastle United and Inter Milan have been mooted, but the likeliest role could be a coaching position at Liverpool under manager Jurgen Klopp. The Liverpool Echo believe the Reds boss is very keen for Gerrard to come back to Anfield in a non-playing role.
