Everton are interested in signing FC Rostov forward Sardar Azmoun, according to Mundo Deportivo. The Spanish newspaper say that the Blues were actually interested in the Iranian international last season prior to Liverpool’s interest in the striker.

Azmoun has been tipped by the Guardian as a potential January transfer target for Jurgen Klopp as the Reds boss looks to shore up his forward options with Sadio Mane leaving to play for Senegal in the African Cup of Nations at the start of next year.

21 year old Azmoun is by no means a prolific goalscorer though, and has just four goals in 19 appearances in all competitions to his name so far this campaign. His frequency of goals for his country is however much higher with 16 in 22 matches, leading some to dub him the “Iranian Messi.”

Azmoun’s agent Mehdi Hagitali has responded to the transfer speculation by stating his client is happy at Rostov but did say that “if some proposals come, we will look at them.”
