Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been fulsome in his praise for Southampton heading in to the clash against the Saints at St Mary’s this weekend.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference yesterday, the Reds boss says the Saints have done an “unbelievable job” replacing the many stars and managers that have left the club over the last few years.

“Southampton, if you would have asked me nearly at each point in the season until now, I would have said [they are] the biggest surprise for me again.”.

“They did – again – an unbelievable job. We have a really good team and I think four players from our team are from Southampton and a few other clubs use them too, I would say.”

“Again, they have this team and [made a] perfect decision with the manager. Claude Puel is an unbelievably experienced man and you can see it in each game.”

Many of the Saints players that have left have ended up at Liverpool with Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Nathaniel Clyne, Sadio Mane and Rickie Lambert all having left Southampton to join the Reds over the last few years.

It is always a tricky situation heading into a match after the international break with injuries and fatigue taking their toll on players. Lallana is expected to be replaced by Georginio Wijnaldum in the side after the 28 year old picked up a groin injury against Spain on Tuesday.

After a long haul flight on Wednesday, the fitness of both Brazilians Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino may be under scrutiny, although the latter did not start the 2-0 over Peru and should be in good shape to start.
