Those who mocked Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp for the team’s celebration in front of the Kop after the 2-2 draw against West Brom last season, aren’t laughing much now says John Aldridge.

The former Reds striker believes the holding hand gesture at Anfield was a way for Klopp to build a rapport between the team and the fans. The fact that the Reds have gone 19 games unbeaten at home in the league proves a point, according to Aldo. Writing in his column for the Liverpool Echo, he said:

“Remember how people mocked Jurgen Klopp when he got the players to hold hands in front of the Kop after that late equaliser against West Brom last December? Those who laughed, it’s come back to haunt them.”

“Now Liverpool are 19 games unbeaten at home in all competitions. That gesture was part of the building process in trying to make Anfield a fortress again. Klopp was getting his message across that fans and players should never give up. That the fans can play their part by staying right behind the team throughout.”

The Reds still have to play some of their toughest opponents at home, but after playing away and winning at some of the best teams in the league already this season, Jurgen Klopp’s side have nothing to fear.

The 6-1 victory over Watford also demonstrates the Reds have begun to develop a knack of beating perceived “lesser” teams far more easily than they have done in the past which could bode well for any tilt at the title this campaign.
