If there’s one term that’s come to prominence more than any other this season in particular, it surely has to be ‘back three.’
Whilst teams playing with aforementioned term in their defence have been around for ages, we’ve certainly seen a real upturn in it being used here in the Premier League this year.
Chelsea, of course, have been the most prominent employers of the system but the likes of Spurs and West Ham have also used it at times this year, too.
The formation largely relies on having two hard working wing backs and and it got us thinking, if a back three does end up being the way forward and we as a club try to adopt it, who are going to be our wing backs?
Nathaniel Clyne could do a job and James Milner may be able to, too, but ideally we could do with some reinforcements in that area.
It pays to be ready for such eventualities – particularly if we need to rotate more if and when we’re in the Champions League next season – so here are three we came up with that Jurgen should be looking at in January.
