Amongst all of the great fanfare Sadio Mane received for his part in the win over Spurs – Lucas Leiva deserved credit, too.

Whilst, rightly, Mane was the man of the match the experienced Brazilian put in a good display alongside Joel Matip at the back to help keep Harry Kane well out of the game.

He didn’t get much credit, as he never really has, though, but it appears such performances are numbered now with Gremio reportedly wanting to bring him home, even though it isn’t possible right now.

As quoted in The Liverpool Echo, the Brazilian club’s president Romildo Bolzan Junior said over an offer for the midfielder:

“Lucas Leiva is a player who is in the fans’ imagination. He is a player that would be important to bring, we made an approach, but at the moment he is out of the possibilities.”

So, whilst it seems right now Gremio won’t be able to seal anything we’re pretty sure come the summer things will have changed to allow for it.

Lucas has been a loyal servant, but we think it’s time for him to go.
