Whilst the likes of Sadio Mane and Joel Matip are the leading contenders for the Reds’ signing of the season there’s one man who also deserves praise – Gini Wijnaldum.
The Dutch midfielder may not have had the goal-scoring impact of Mane, nor the defensive calmness of Matip but he has certainly been influential in helping implement Jurgen Klopp’s pressing from midfield.
His breaking into the box is a joy to behold, too, and if he could just add some more goals we’d have a real talent on our hands – more than we do already.
Indeed, we’d play him every week ahead of Emre Can at the moment but it appears we could have to sweat on his fitness ahead of the game against Leicester on Monday.
As quoted by The Liverpool Echo, Jurgen Klopp revealed the midfielder had received a slight knock – saying:
“Gini had a knock on his calf in training this week but he should be okay.”
Nothing serious, then, but we will have to surely wait and see what the selection is come Monday night depending on the next couple of days.
