Daniel Sturridge has been criticised over the years for his mental toughness but, when you think about it, he’s actually done well in the face of adversity.

He’s been taken to task on more than one occasion for perhaps not playing through the pain barrier but, whilst that is a different debate, you cannot argue he’s largely dealt well with the bad luck that’s befallen him.

Only today it’s been revealed that he’s had to go home from our warm-weather training camp with a virus and now that’s been followed up by a pretty unfortunate stat compiled by The Daily Star.

The striker has, of course, not played much this season for a variety of reasons and it appears he may have grabbed a few more goals and appearances because of that if he’d just stop hitting the post.

He’s hit the woodwork the joint fifth most times this season (4) but has certainly played less than those around him. The others in the list: Christian Eriksen (4 times), Dele Alli (4), Charlie Adam (4), Alexis Sanchez (5), Jack Wilshere (5), Kevin De Bruyne (7) and Paul Pogba (8) have all been regulars and that just shows out lethal he can still be – if he had a slice more luck.
