You can’t deny it, you look at Manchester City sometimes and think ‘why on Earth did you get such rich owners?’
It’s, of course, a feeling we’re familiar with after Chelsea suddenly found money and whilst we’re the bigger club, seeing them get in the best players and win more trophies over recent years has been a real pain.
Our owners are hardly paupers, of course, but they can’t compete with those two at the moment which is why we’re pleased we’ve got Jurgen Klopp in our armoury.
What’s pleased us almost as much, though, is Kevin De Bruyne’s recent comments (as quoted by The Liverpool Echo) where he’s admitted City are nowhere near the Reds – or Man United – in terms of stature.
It’s not something we felt needed qualifying but hearing a player of that calibre acknowledge such a fact is always going to be welcome.
He said:
“People talk about teams like Man United and Liverpool, with the history they have.
“Obviously they are great teams and you cannot compare us to them because we didn’t have the time that they’ve had already for doing what they did in the Champions League.”
